Governor Evers will call for a nonpartisan redistricting process in the state budget.
The leaders of the Majority Republicans in the Legislature oppose that.
Evers wants a special commission to put together the boundaries of political districts. The Legislature would vote on the maps, but there would be restrictions on any changes. The governor would still sign or veto them.
There are still lawsuits pending over the Republican-drawn maps that were put in place in 2011.
