Green Bay police say drugs are involved in the vast majority of murders in the city.
That includes both shooting deaths in the city so far this year. Eighteen-year-old Green Bay Preble High School student Federico Abarca was killed last Friday in a marijuana deal.
Capt. Jeremy Muraski believes there are similarities with a number of cases, going back to 2015. He says a lot of times people go into a drug deal with the idea of ripping off the other person.
Muraski is concerned, because people are willing to shoot and kill others over small amounts of drugs or money. He thinks about $200 worth of marijuana vaping cartridges were involved in Abarca’s murder. Muraski believes the highest dollar amount recently was a murder over a $1,000 drug debt.
Four people are in custody in connection with last weekend’s murder.
