Training played a role in how emergency responders dealt with the pileup on I-41 South in the Neenah area.
Winnebago County Sheriff John Matz says they put their mass casualty plan in place. He thinks it worked well, while they were helping the 71 injured people. He says the EMTs and hospitals figured out where there was room for more patients.
Matz says the sheriff’s department did run into an issue when they called in all of their deputies. He says they didn’t have enough squad cars, so they had to borrow some from Oshkosh police.
Thirty-year-old Andrew Schefelker of Oshkosh was killed. He taught science at the middle and high schools at Iola-Scandinavia.
