Vietnam veterans on the Old Glory Honor Flight back to the country they fought in about 50 years ago are getting a different glimpse of the people and what life is like there.
Action 2 News reporter Jeff Alexander is with them. He says the trip is emotional for the veterans and it’s an opportunity to let them heal.
He shares Dale Van Lanen’s story. The Green Bay man served in the Marines in Da Nang.
Alexander says Van Lanen feels guilty over the way he treated the Vietnamese people when he was there and suffers nightmares from the chaos of war and the unknown fate of many friends.
Dale and his brother Tom, who is also on the trip, both fought in Da Nang.
Tom feels this is a great experience for them to share.
