The 52 veterans on the Old Glory Honor Flight Return to Nam trip are in their second week.
The veterans visited Hue, the ancient capitol city of Vietnam.
The journey is helping them heal as they take in Vietnam’s culture, something they couldn’t do while in combat.
Just outside Hue is the former Phu Bai airfield where countless Marines and soldiers arrived for war.
Tony Mielke of Fond du Lac served there and says in some ways never left. He says he left the country 50 years ago, but Vietnam never left him. He says the sights and sounds come back to him and sometimes scare him in the middle of the night. He feels it is good to be back.
Action Two News reporter Jeff Alexander is traveling with the group and sharing their stories.
He says the veterans were given letters from family and friends.
Bob Smithers of De Pere says the more than 50 he received was more than he got during his two tours of duty.
