A fire at a restaurant on Main Avenue in downtown De Pere forced police to shut down the west lane of the Main Avenue bridge for about an hour. That caused a major traffic jam.
Crews were called to Nicky’s Lionhead Restaurant around 3:30 p.m. yesterday.
Fire Chief Alan Matzke says he asked for extra help from other area departments because older buildings are built so close together there’s a risk the fire could spread quickly.
He says the apartments above the restaurant weren’t damaged but there was minor damage to the bar.
He’s thankful no one was hurt.
