Cars didn’t go over the side of the Leo Frigo Bridge in Green Bay during this week’s pileup in part because of concrete barriers.
About 30 cars were involved and video shows some of them hitting the barriers and bouncing back.
DOT Bridge Inspector Dale Weber says they’re designed to do two things. He says they keep cars from going over the edge, and push them back into the traffic lane.
Weber says they’re built for any type of vehicle including semis. He says there’s a large amount of steel inside the barriers to keep them from breaking when something hits them.
