Appleton taxpayers are going to be on the hook for some more costs for the Fox Cities Exhibition Center.
The city council is agreeing to spend about $75,000 on equipment for the facility. The items, like a commercial floor machine, are part of a priority list to run the center. There are other furnishings the city is expected to pay for and the overall total would be over $200,000.
Alderman Ed Baranowski is disappointed. He says they put the exhibition center out there to bring people to the area, but at this point in time, there’s going to be more of a burden on tax payers.
Mayor Tim Hanna says the items were going to be covered by room tax revenues. But other communities insisted on a different financing deal and Hanna says they couldn’t borrow enough money for all of the furnishings and equipment.
Room tax revenues will cover nearly all of the costs of the center.
