There are split opinions on whether the City of Appleton should review what it charges groups to hold special events.
Ald. Kathy Plank is one of the authors of the proposal. She says the city’s budget was very tight this year, and staffers should look at the city’s costs for public safety and cleanup.
Ald. Kyle Lobner says the city just looked at the fees two years ago.
Ald. Ed Baranowski believes another review sends the “wrong message” to event organizers. He says they contribute to the quality of life in the community.
The finance committee was deadlocked on the proposal. Plank voted against her own proposal, in a procedural move, so the full city council could consider it next week.
