The head of the state corrections department wants to close the troubled Lincoln Hills youth prison, as soon as they can move the inmates to another facility.
Secretary Kevin Carr says Governor Evers is on the same page. Evers wants to delay the indefinite closure of the prison, while new, smaller facilities are being built. One of the proposed sites is near New London, in the Town of Hortonia.
The governor’s proposed budget calls for indefinitely delaying the closure, arguing the 2021 date is too soon.
