Problems with a tire or brakes likely caused a semi fire that snarled traffic on I-41 in the Fox Cities this morning.
That’s the feeling of Grand Chute Fire Chief Tim Bantes.
The northbound lanes were shut down, north of the Northland Avenue exit, for almost four hours. He says the back of the semi trailer was fully engulfed in flames, when crews got there around 6 a.m.
The semi was hauling over 40,000 pounds of meat, and that made a mess. Bantes says some of the beef stayed in the trailer, but there was some on the road, and underneath the trailer.
Bantes says the Outagamie County Highway Department brought in construction equipment to scoop up the meat, and put it into two dump trucks.
