A person and dog escaped from a house fire early this morning in downtown Appleton but a cat died.
Fire crews were called to the two story building in the 800 block of West Fourth Street around 12:30 a.m.
Officials say there was smoke and flames on the first floor.
The cause is still under investigation.
A damage estimate hasn’t been released.
