A decision by a local restaurant to ban middle school students, at one Appleton location, is making the rounds on social media.
Tom’s Drive In on E. Wisconsin Avenue put up a sign several months ago. Students aren’t allowed, without a parent.
Manager Brandon Coumbe says they were having problems with kids causing damage and being vulgar. He says it got to the point where other customers wouldn’t come in.
Coumbe says obviously not all of the students were bad, and the bad ones ruined it for everyone. He plans to revisit the policy at the end of the school year.
The Appleton school district’s Kaleidoscope Academy Middle School is a few blocks away from the Tom’s location.
Tom’s is still letting students come in after school dances, because Coumbe says that’s a tradition.
