Appleton leaders are still waiting for a decision on a proposed quiet zone for train whistles.
The city upgraded several crossings along a line that cuts across the city.
Traffic Engineer Eric Lom says without counting the government shutdown it’s been about 275 days since the city filed its application with the Federal Railroad Association. That’s longer than the city’s consultants usually see. Lom says it usually takes 60-to-90 days.
Lom admits the city’s proposal is more complicated than most because of the number of crossings involved. He hopes to hear something in the next few weeks.
