Sen Robert Cowles announces he won't seek re-election in the newly redrawn 2nd District
Several Republican lawmakers want the Legislature’s budget committee to hold off on a proposal to build a youth prison in the New London area.
Governor Evers is pushing for a site in the Town of Hortonia.
Republican Sen. Rob Cowles of Allouez believes the community is against it. He says the budget committee has to approve the plan, before it could move forward. He says Evers can also voluntarily pick a different location.
Cowles is calling on the state corrections department to reach out to the community, and hold a series of meetings on the plans.
He says the proposed location is close to the Wolf River, wetlands, and wildlife. He believes it would be difficult to build on the site, because it was under water until recently
