A national magazine is once again honoring a jazz group from Lawrence University.
“DownBeat” is picking the school’s Jazz Ensemble as the top one, in the large ensemble category. It’s the second-straight year the group won the award.
Director Patty Darling says they submitted three songs. One was a little softer, while the other two were faster with a lot of spots for soloists. She believes it’s important to show the students can play different styles of music.
It’s the fifth award for Lawrence University groups from “DownBeat” in 34 years.
