A historic building that housed several businesses including a restaurant and apartments in downtown De Pere is completely destroyed by fire.
Chief Alan Matzke says crews saw flames coming from the Ogan restaurant at 100 South Broadway when they got to the scene around 12:30 a.m.
Matzke says more than 20 people lived in the upper apartments and they helped each other get out.
They’re being aided by the Red Cross.
He says it’s too soon to tell what caused the fire but believe it started in the restaurant.
He says a firefighter has a minor leg injury but otherwise no people or pets were hurt.
Matzka says they’re using heavy equipment to tear apart the debris so they can check for hot spots.
