The state is getting a nice financial windfall from the big Powerball winner in southeast Wisconsin.
Twenty-four-year-old Manuel Franco is taking the $477 million lump-sum payment. The state will collect about $36.5 million in taxes from the jackpot.
Democratic Sen. Tim Carpenter of Milwaukee thinks that money should go toward local road projects. He believes the condition of the state’s roads is one of the top issues in Wisconsin.
Carpenter is introducing a bill to earmark the revenue for roads.
