UW-Oshkosh administrators believe they know the student who is responsible for racist posts on social media.
Chancellor Andrew Leavitt became aware of the posts around 12:30 a.m. today, when he checked his cellphone. He’s disappointed it happened at his school.
Leavitt says anyone with racist feelings is welcome to leave the UW-Oshkosh community. He believes it continues to happen because a lot of new people come into the community every year, and some of them may not be accustomed to diversity.
Leavitt hosted a forum for students and staff this afternoon, where Malik Martin from suburban Chicago voiced his frustration. He says he wasn’t shocked, because it wasn’t the first incident this year, but he definitely feels disgusted.
Martin says he doesn’t know if he wants to continue to go to UW-Oshkosh, especially if the incident isn’t handled the right way, with some type of consequences.
The administration and UW-O police are handling the investigation.
