ThedaCare doctors are taking an unprecedented step because of the measles.
They’re sending letters to parents, if their kids don’t have the recommended dose of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine.
There are more than 700 measles cases in 22 states so far this year.
Dr. Sharon Rink believes it’s only a matter of time before it gets to Wisconsin. She says the measles is a very serious disease that can cause high fevers, and lead to pneumonia.
Rink says for communities to be protected, about 95 percent of the population needs to be immunized. The current rate for measles in northeast Wisconsin is around 87 percent. That’s a little higher than the statewide rate of 85 percent.
