Winnebago County is looking to replace the main taxiway at Wittman Regional Airport.
The current taxiway is beginning to crumble, and it doesn’t meet standards as a runway for use during EAA AirVenture anymore.
Airport Director Jim Schell says they should be able to get the work done next year. He thinks they could start next April, and restart in August after a break for AirVenture.
Winnebago County would have to put $525,000 toward the $10 million construction cost. Federal and state funding would cover the rest.
