The Highway 23 expansion project between Fond du Lac and Plymouth will start very soon.
Local leaders took part in a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday afternoon.
DOT Secretary Craig Thompson says it’s a long time coming. He says it started in the late 1990s and has gone through a lot of changes. He says the one constant has been the community support.
There have been a number of deadly crashes on Highway 23 in recent years. A federal judge blocked the project in 2015 because of environmental impacts. The DOT has since dealt with those issues. The project is expected to last until 20-22.
