Two top Outagamie County leaders are on opposite sides of a possible half-cent sales tax.
A study shows it could bring in $20 million next year. By using some of the revenue to offset property taxes every household could save between 58 and 113 dollars in the first year.
Jeff Nooyen is the county board chair. He says it’s an alternative to raising property taxes.
County Executive Tom Nelson opposes the half-cent sales tax. He doesn’t think it’s something the people want.
About 25 percent of the revenue could come from people living outside of the county. The county’s finance committee could consider the proposal later this month.
