Six years after a Pittsfield woman disappeared, her husband is behind bars on a $2 million bond for her murder.
Brown County prosecutors are waiting to file formal charges against 73-year-old James Prokopovitz. He was arrested this week after a John Doe hearing on the case. Victoria Prokopovitz went missing in April of 2013. James and his girlfriend, 67-year-old Kathy Friday, are also accused of obstructing police and perjury.
Prosecutor Wendy Lemkuil says James told investigators they agreed to keep their stories straight. She says they talked about how they would lie on the way to the proceeding.
James initially told investigators he thought Victoria committed suicide. Friday’s bond is $25,000.
Prosecutors have until next Wednesday to officially charge both of them.
