A spot in downtown Appleton looks much different, with the demolition of the Blue Ramp and a historic building across the street.
The city is tearing down the parking ramp, and crews are currently digging out the basement level. The rest of the ramp, at the corner of Appleton and Washington streets, is already gone.
Kiddie-corner, the former Author’s Kitchen and Bar building was also torn down, after it was destroyed in a fire.
City spokesman Chad Doran says that project forced the city to close the intersection for several weeks, but it’s open again.
Work on the Blue Ramp is expected to continue for at least another couple of months. Crews will level the site and plant grass.
