Majority Republicans in the Assembly plan to take up a set of anti-abortion bills today.
One would require abortion providers to care for babies if they survive an abortion attempt. Opponents say that rarely happens, and if it does doctors are ethically bound to try and keep them alive.
Governor Evers is vowing to veto the bill.
Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke of Vandenbroek is speaking out about the proposal today.
Assembly Minority Leader Gordon Hintz of Oshkosh accuses Republicans of “following the same playbook” as conservatives in other states like Alabama and Georgia. Some Democrats believe Republicans are pushing the bill to shift attention away from popular items in Governor Evers’ proposed budget.
