The firefighter killed after a shooting in downtown Appleton was married with three children.
Mitch Lundgaard was a 14-year veteran of the department.
Fire Chief Jeremy Hansen is asking people to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers.
He says Lundgaard started with the department in 2005, and he was a firefighter and inspector. He was a relief driver and engineer, and he was taking part in the in-house company officer program.
The fire department is helping set up an official donation page for the family, through the Friends of the Appleton Fire Department and a GoFundMe page.
Police Chief Todd Thomas says the officer that was shot was released from a hospital today.
Thomas says the shooter was a 47-year-old man from the Wausau area, and firefighters went to help him. He says the man was on a bus, and having a seizure.
Thomas reports that man eventually walked off the bus and toward the library. He says the man had a gun, and there was a shootout with police officers. The man died from his injuries, at a local hospital.
A female bystander was also shot, and Thomas says she’s at a hospital in stable condition.
The Green Bay police department is handling the investigation, with help from other agencies.
