A Green Bay nonprofit plans to end a service that gives job experience to people with special needs.
ASPIRO employs about 250 adults with disabilities. Leaders are partially blaming a federal proposal that would force them to pay every worker minimum wage. That could increase costs for the nonprofit by about $250,000 a year.
Joel Reetz’s daughter works at ASPIRO. He says it’s not about the money. He says the people working there gain valuable experience and an opportunity to feel important.
ASPIRO leaders plan to phase out the service by the end of next year.
