Some Republicans are hopeful that Governor Evers could sign the so-called “born alive” abortion bill if it goes to his desk.
It would send doctors to prison for life if they don’t help babies that survive failed abortions.
Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald of Juneau expects the Senate to pass the bill. He thinks this bill is much different than other pro-life proposals introduced in the past in the state.
Evers says he would veto the bill. He believes there are already protections and criminal penalties in the state law.
The Senate still has to vote on the proposal.
