Next month marks the 10-year anniversary of the law that lets police stop and ticket people for not wearing seatbelts.
Fox Crossing police officer Dan Wiechman says last year, about 50 percent of people hurt or killed in car crashes in the state weren’t wearing buckled up.
The annual Click It or Ticket campaign started this week, and Wiechman credits that for improving seatbelt rates. He says about 74 percent were buckling up during the first year of the enforcement effort. That figure is now 89 percent.
The Click It or Ticket initiative runs through June 2nd. Hundreds of law enforcement agencies around the state are participating.
