Calumet County will get a new jail.
The county board unanimously signed off on the $35 million project last night.
County Administrator Todd Romanesko says they need to finish the design of the building. Construction could start in late September or early October. He hopes the jail will be ready by the end of March of 2021.
After that, the county would renovate part of the courthouse.
The new jail will be going up in Chilton, next to the current one. It will have 89 beds, with room to expand to 128.
The current jail has 54 beds and it was built 43 years ago.
