Little Chute leaders are going to take some more time to save money on a proposed quiet zone for train whistles.
Village Administrator James Fenlon says as of now, they’ll need to make improvements at six railroad crossings. Instead of having a consulting firm work on the designs, the village will have in-house engineers do that. Fenlon believes they’ll save about $20,000.
He estimates the overall quiet zone project will probably cost about $170,000.
He says they might not be finished with that work until 2020.
The City of Appleton has been waiting for word from the Federal Railroad Administration for months on its proposed quiet zone.
