Prosecutors are filing formal charges against three men, after an Illinois man was killed in an explosion in the Marion area.
They say video shows 37-year-old Robert Mattes of New London lighting a fuse on a large pipe last Sunday night.
Waupaca County District Attorney Veronica Isherwood says she feels bad for the men along with the victim’s family. She says they don’t believe there was anything intentional about the incident. She believes it was a tragedy based on reckless behavior.
Forty-two-year-old Kenneth Niemer of Clintonville is accused of bringing the pipe to a home in the Town of Dupont. Waupaca County prosecutors say 60-year-old Scott Mattes of Marion put an aerosol can inside the pipe, before the fuse was lit.
An autospy shows the Illinois man died, after he was hit in the abdomen by shrapnel.
The three men are charged with homicide by the negligent handling of explosives.
