Majority Republicans in the Legislature say they’ll scrap a proposal from Governor Evers to raise the gas tax to help pay for roads.
Evers wants to increase it by eight cents per gallon right away, then by about one cent every year after that.
His proposal calls for raising new car title fees for heavy trucks.
Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says the GOP may increase fees, instead of the gas tax. He says the Legislature’s budget committee could take up the transportation proposals next Thursday.
