Governor Evers is insisting his plan to expand Medicaid isn’t dead.
Majority Republicans on the Legislature’s budget committee are expected to remove the proposal from the two-year plan today.
Evers wants to accept $1.6 billion in federal funding. He says 70 percent of people in the state supported Medicaid expansion in a recent poll. He says they’ll continue to fight for that.
Republican Representative John Nygren of Marinette is the co-chair of the budget committee and he opposes accepting the money. He argues that it’s the same as expanding welfare and not the right way to increase access and affordability.
