Some Senate Republicans want to give counties and towns money for road work.
Sen. Dan Feyen of Fond du Lac says budgets can be tight, especially for towns. He says some projects do not cost too much, but towns still need the money to cover them.
The proposal would set aside $133 million. Each county would get $1 million and every town would receive $1,000 per mile, for their roads. Feyen says they would be one-time grants.
Jerry Deschane of the League of Wisconsin Municipalities points out there isn’t anything for cities and villages. He hopes to work toward a fair solution.
Sens. Rob Cowles of Allouez and Luther Olsen of Ripon, also support the proposal.
