A local lawmaker hopes to cut down on the demand of human trafficking in the area.
A new proposal would create a fine of up to $5,000 for people soliciting sex online. The money would fund more investigations.
Republican Senator Andre Jacque of De Pere is the author of the bill. He thinks it’s critical to address the demand side of the equation, and this bill would also bring in substantial funding.
Lawmakers introduced a similar bill last year but it didn’t gain any traction. The Senate unanimously passed Jacque’s proposal yesterday. It’s expected to move through the Assembly and it could be on the governor’s desk by the end of the month.
