The top Republican in the Senate says they’re considering raising the state’s vehicle registration fee by $10 to help pay for roads.
Right now it costs $75. Some cities, like Appleton, charge their own $20 wheel tax and that has to be paid at the same time. Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says they’re also looking at other possibilities instead of raising the gas tax.
Governor Evers is proposing an eight-cent increase in the gas tax. He hopes to offset that by repealing the minimum markup law.
