Appleton Police Chief Todd Thomas is again thanking the community for the support, in the days and weeks after the shooting.
He says the actions of the first responders and the community’s support reaffirmed what he already knew about Appleton.
Thomas says a youth softball team raised money, so the girls could put on a cookout for firefighters and police officers. And he thanked the tens of thousands of people who lined the streets for Lundgaard’s funeral processions.
Thomas says Ruben Houston was a criminal passing through the community when he overdosed. Houston was on a bus that has stops throughout the state.
Thomas says the event was an anomaly, and it could have happened anywhere on the route from Milwaukee to Wausau.
Thomas is calling Houston’s actions “pure evil.”
