Calumet County is going to use a federal grant to clean up contaminated sites.
Administrator Todd Romanesko says they’ll work with a consultant to pick the most important places. He says they know there are former manufacturing properties that have issues with the soil. Some of them are in Brillion, Chilton, and New Holstein. He says they’re going to work with a consultant to find more and prioritize them.
Romanesko says they’ll ask businesses to come forward if they think there might be contamination from decades earlier. The county also plans to look at historical maps to find potentially polluted sites.
The EPA grant is worth $300,000.
