A weekend police shooting in Little Chute reportedly involved a suicidal man and the leader of a state group says that’s happening more often.
It’s called “suicide by cop” and Jim Palmer of the Wisconsin Professional Police Association says it has a big impact. He says those incidents take a big toll on everyone, especially officers. He says they often have no choice but to use deadly force, and that’s something they have to live with the rest of their lives.
The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department says two deputies fired shots at 43-year-old Jakeus Meltz Sunday night. He’s in critical condition at a hospital. They were looking for him in connection with a domestic dispute in Shiocton. The department says Meltz made a movement toward his waist area and the deputies starting firing. They say Meltz had a gun.
