Ice shoves destroyed a walking bridge in Oshkosh about two years ago and Winnebago County is getting a grant to replace it.
The bridge runs from Asylum Point to a small island with a lighthouse.
Rob Way is the county parks director. He says they’ve tried to get funding in the past, but those attempts fell through.
The Fox River Natural Resource Trustee Council is giving the $100,000 grant. The money comes from fines paid by companies that release harmful chemicals into local waterways.
Way expects crews to start working on the new bridge in the fall. He hopes it’ll be done by next summer.
