A 9/11 memorial group will pay off the mortgage for the family home of a fallen Appleton firefighter.
Driver-Engineer Mitch Lundgaard was shot and killed last month, while on an overdose call at the downtown transit center.
The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is stepping in to help Lundgaard’s wife and three sons.
The organization was set up in memory of a New York firefighter killed on 9/11.
The head of the group says Lundgaard’s senseless death underscores the dangers that first responders face every day.
