The state budget is now on its way to Governor Evers.
Majority Republicans in the Senate approved the two-year plan yesterday afternoon. The governor will have to decide whether to use his line-item veto powers or veto the entire budget.
Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald believes it’s a compromise and he thinks Evers will sign it. He says he urged Evers to give it a lot of thought. He thinks it would be difficult to re-assemble the Legislature, bring them back, and then work on the policy decisions from a different perspective.
The Senate vote was 17-to-16. Republican Senators David Craig of Big Bend and Steve Nass of Whitewater joined all of the Democrats in voting “no.”
