There’s a special meeting in Freedom tonight on the future of the town’s police department.
The town board and police commission are getting together tonight to look at whether to keep the town’s own officers, or work out a deal with the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department.
The board is also asking school district administrators about a possible school resource officer.
Town Chair Charles Kramer didn’t return calls for comment.
Freedom Police Chief Chris Nechodom hired an attorney, and the lawyer isn’t commenting.
The Sheriff’s department has contracts with Greenville, Combined Locks, and Buchanan to have deputies on duty in those communities.
The town started its own police department 21 years ago.
Tonight’s meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at the Freedom Town Hall.
