The Winnebago County Sheriffs Office had to deal with a rash of 911 misdials over the weekend.
Forty-six people mistakenly called the emergency line in a 24-hour period Saturday and Sunday. Thirty of the calls came from the Country USA grounds, and seven came from boaters on area lakes and rivers.
Sheriff’s officials say most of the calls were due to the “emergency” setting on smartphones.
They ask that if you dial 911 by mistake to stay on the line and explain the situation, so that deputies do not need to respond to the scene.
