Menasha’s police chief believes a huge effort to revitalize a portion of the city will have an impact on crime.
Habitat For Humanity’s Rock the Block plans to rehabilitate up to 100 houses in Menasha next year. It’s the largest project of its kind in the country.
Chief Tim Styka says smaller efforts have reduced crime in those areas. He says runaways and domestic disturbances are down by about 75 percent. They’ve had about a 50 percent decline in truancy and drug cases. Theft complaints are down 18 percent.
Rock the Block will be working on homes in an area bound by 9th and Tayco streets, and the Fox River next year.
