A husband and wife are getting credit for putting out a garage fire and getting the eight people inside of the home out.
Kaukauna fire Lieutenant Joe Resch says crews were called around 1 p.m. yesterday to the 1300 block of Sullivan Avenue on the city’s south side, but the fire was out by the time they got there.
He says a neighbor saw smoke and flames coming from a garage and grabbed his fire extinguisher.
He also used water from a rain barrel to put out the rest of the fire and removed a flammable gas can from the burning garage.
Resch says while he was doing that his wife knocked on the door to get the four children and four adults out.
Resch says the home didn’t have working smoke detectors.
The cause of the garage fire is under investigation.
