A state grant to build a boardwalk over the Fox River between Kaukauna and Little Chute is larger than the communities expected.
Little Chute Parks and Recreation Director Adam Breest says they asked the DNR for about $640,000. They’re actually getting an additional $66,000 because another project in the state didn’t need the money.
Breest says the estimated cost of the project is $3.3 million, and that figure will be about 18 months old by the time they ask for construction bids. He’s concerned it will go up because of inflation and the price of steel.
He says they have more than $3.4 million set aside right now. That money comes from Little Chute, Kaukauna grants, and private donations.
The project is still on schedule, and they hope to break ground this fall.
Breest thinks they can open the boardwalk next summer.
