The City of Appleton might spend $175,000 on security upgrades at the downtown library.
Facilities Director Dean Gazza says it looks like it could be several years before a proposed new building would be ready. He wants to upgrade alarms and automatic door locks now. He hopes they can move some of the equipment to the new library including security cameras. Gazza says by the time the new library is built, the cameras would still be relatively new and could be moved.
Because of increased security concerns the library staff worked with Appleton police and the security manager for Milwaukee’s library system to analyze the current building. The finance committee is agreeing to make the improvements. The city council could vote on them next week.
